Of course, metabolism is a vast topic, but we will try to sum it up in this article.

Whatever we eat either contains protein, carbohydrates, and lipids, or all of these. These are digested and converted into simpler forms in our body. For example, proteins are converted into amino acids, lipids are converted into fatty acids and starch breaks down in the form of simpler sugar. All these processes release energy that is required for sustaining human life. And all these biochemical reactions together form metabolism.

Well, your explanation of what does it mean to be metabolically healthy is here.

So what does it mean to be metabolically healthy? One person is considered metabolically healthy when all these biochemical reactions are being carried out ideally in their body. If we talk about it in simpler terms, if a person has his blood sugar, triglycerides, cholesterol, blood pressure at an ideal level without the use of any medicine, he is considered a metabolically healthy person.

In addition to that, to carry out all these metabolic processes, our body needs a minimum amount of energy called the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). A person with too low or too high BMR is considered metabolically unhealthy.

So, why is it important to have good metabolism? What is it affecting or basal metabolic rate? And how can we improve our metabolic health?

Let us answer these questions one by one.

So, what does it mean to be metabolically healthy? and why is it necessary?

A good metabolism helps in clearing toxins and waste which affect various functions of the body. It improves blood circulation and helps in elevating the mood. A metabolically healthy person appears younger and has a better natural immunity.

Now let’s talk about factors affecting our metabolic rate.

Basal metabolic rate is usually affected by genes, diet, sleep, medicines, stress, etc. Of course, we cannot control our genes. But we can have our diet according to our Body Mass Index (BMI) which is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women.

People with more muscle need more calories. And for this, they should plan their diet accordingly. And taking more calories or food than required slows down the BMR as excess nutrients are stored as fat in our body.
Irregular sleep and lack of sleep also affect our metabolism as it messes up with the glucose level of our body causing a lack of energy. We understand that work can affect one’s routine and it cannot always be controlled. But it’s not like we can’t improve our metabolic health.

There are several ways to improve our metabolic health. And the first step towards improving your it is having a well-balanced diet.

We can improve our BMR by eating regularly, having the correct number of calories, getting plenty of sleep, reducing stress, and drinking water. Regular exercise helps in burning down extra fat from our body in turn maintaining the BMR.

Irregular BMR causes serious problems in the human body like High blood pressure, diabetes, abnormal cholesterol, or triglycerides level, and many more. So, it is of utmost importance that we should take care of our BMR i.e., metabolic health.

So, from now make sure you visit your doctor regularly, get tests down, keep your BMR in check and nd live a long and healthy life. And if that does not sound reasonable enough, just know that a healthy metabolism will also make you look younger!
