Even though experience-based motels are common in South America and Africa, Paradero claims to be the first hotel company to bring the concept to Mexico.

Located on a previously underutilised 5.5-acre tract inside a farming community in Todos Santos , Baja California Sur, proprietors Pablo Carmona and Joshua Kremer have made it their mission to protect the over 160 acres of family-owned farms that surround the site.

The resort is made up of a succession of brutalist-inspired structures created by architects Ruben Valdez and Yashar Yektajo and is located in front of a palm tree oasis about 20 minutes from the beach.

They were inspired by the sun-kissed colours of the area and constructed the residence in golden tones to fit in with the sandy natural surroundings. The desert tones of the structures also bring out the red sand verbena, Mojave yucca, and Shaw’s agave in the resort’s 100,000-square-foot botanical garden.

Though the resort’s outdoor spa and half-moon shaped infinity pool make it difficult to leave, guided walks over cactus fields to the desolate Las Palmas beach, taco tours of the finest local places in Todos Santos, and individual surf lessons are all available.

Customized boards have been placed in the hotel’s outdoor living area, an airy sanctuary where guests can kick back and unwind after an adventure in anticipation of seafood-centric dinners served by chef Eduardo Ros, a former chef at Enrique Olvera’s Pujol restaurant in Mexico City.

Soneva Fushi , Maldives

Most Maldivian resorts can be easily placed in the top ten. Soneva Fushi, located in the magnificent Baa Atoll island archipelago, a UNESCO World Biosphere, is a complete standout.

While it may be older than the showier, freshly built Maldivian resorts, it has the unique benefit of being completely encircled by one of the world’s most gorgeous, soft sand, palm-fringed beaches.

Among the deep tropical jungle are massive, Robinson Crusoe-style multi-bedroom luxury homes and private mansions. Many are designed to seem like tree huts, in line with the castaway motif. Most have their own private saltwater swimming pools and access to their private stretch of sugar-white dunes.

Banyan Tree Resort, Seychelles

The Banyan Tree Seychelles, situated at the scenic south-western coast of Mahé island, may have some of the most valuable real estates on the planet.

The resort features 60 stunning Creole-style villas, each with its own poolside and tastefully decorated in contemporary and colonial design to evoke equal parts comfort and sensuality. The resort is situated above or adjacent to the stunning Anse Intendance beach.

With a gorgeous backdrop of palm trees, big rocks, and deep jungle-covered hills, the latter boasts half a mile of the whitest sand you’ll ever see. Because there is no reef, the waves are substantially bigger than they are on most other Seychelles beaches, making it better for surfing than swimming most of the time.

Soneva Kiri, Koh Kood, Thailand

Soneva Kiri is located on Thailand’s fourth-largest but least populous island, Koh Kood, in the Gulf of Siam, and is reachable by a one-hour trip from Bangkok on the resort’s jet.

The estate’s 36 magnificent villas are among the world’s largest resort villas. All feature gorgeous infinity pools, sophisticated furniture, personal motorised buggies and are located on picturesque beaches or sunny jungle slopes.

The open-air Cinema Paradiso, Benz’s mangrove restaurant, the chocolate and ice cream store, and the magnificent treetop eating pod are all spectacular attractions. A quick 5-minute motorboat trip from the resort will take you to the resort’s gorgeous white sand beach.

Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa , Riviera Maya, Mexico

The hacienda-style Belmond Maroma Resort & Spa tucked away within 25 acres of conserved forest on the Yucatan Peninsula, stands for sheer escapism with a hint of Mayan mysticism.

The resort is located on the edge of an undeveloped beach that is flanked by the world’s second-longest barrier reef, which provides world-class diving and snorkelling opportunities.

The reef protects the resort’s talcum, powder-like white sand beach and ensures safe sea bathing in all weather situations. Days are spent lounging by the pool or meandering through flower-filled gardens where parrots and butterflies flit around. In neighbouring Cancun, you may also visit some of Mexico’s major heritage sites, dive in strange underwater tunnels, or shop till you drop.
