What does pulse rate means?
Pulse rate is nothing but the number of times your heart beats per minute. It is also known as the heart rate. The heart rate at rest of a normal person is 60-100 beats per minute (bpm). Depending on various factors there can be a Rapid pulse rate or Slow pulse rate.
Rapid pulse rate or tachycardia – at rest if the heart beat is above 100 bpm, it’s called a rapid pulse rate or tachycardia. Factors like exercise, an infection in the body normally lead to rapid pulse rate. Besides these at normal conditions if rapid pulse rate is observed it can be related to different health conditions.
Slow pulse rate or Bradycardia – at rest if the heart beat is below 60 bpm, it’s called a slow pulse rate or bradycardia. Slower heart rate is normal for athletes, fit and healthy adults. Besides them if a normal person has an unusual slow heart rate along with dizziness or fatigue might indicate any underlying heart problems.

- Weather – Heart rate increases at higher temperatures.
- Emotions – Anxiety, Stress or when Happy/Sad heart rate is seen to spike.
- Body size – Obese people tend to have a slightly higher pulse rate.
- Medications – Beta – Blockers reduce heart rate and thyroid medication can spike it up.
- Caffeine and Nicotine – These lead to a mild increase in heart rate.

Do females have a higher resting heart rate than males?
Normal pulse rate men and women chart clearly shows the difference between the pulse rate of both the genders.
It is believed that the difference in heart rate in men and women is due to the size of the heart which is typically smaller in women. The smaller size of the female heart needs to beat faster in order to meet the cardiac output as in men. Male heart has slightly larger capacity of blood ejecting per each beat.
How to have a good heart rate?
Lifestyle changes can go a long way in increasing your heart health.

It does increase your heart rate for a while but in return makes your heart stronger so it works better.

Eating healthy food ensures a good heart health. Studies found that fish-eating men have lower heart rate than others.

- Stop smoking –
This doesn’t need any further explanation, it is the best you can do for overall health.

- Loose weight if necessary –
