Human Beings are social creatures. We thrive in the world by creating social bonds. COVID 19 pandemic has bought about unprecedented changes in people’s lives because of its inevitable demand for social isolation. Gone are the days where casual hugs and handshakes were a part of our daily routines. This sudden demand for social isolation led many to fall into deep pits of despair and even pushed some people to the extent of taking away their lives. social isolation and mental health literally needs our attention. Mental health is not something that should be ignored.

  • Take Action: It is substantial to take action and do whatever is feasible to improvise your health and safeguard your loved ones. Eat healthy fruits, take your vitamins, get vaccinated, always wear double masks, move out only when unavoidable, and follow a regular workout routine to stay fit and healthy.

  • Take A Break From News: Constantly watching the news can trigger anxiety and lead to negative thoughts. Sometimes it is crucial to take breaks. You can limit your television time, stick to general news that doesn’t overwhelm you, or maybe ask a friend to filter out the news for you.

  • Keep in touch with friends and family: Social isolation doesn’t imply that one completely disconnects from the world. It refers to physical distancing only. So don’t forget to text or call your loved ones from time to time. Maybe share a silly meme, reminisce old memories over a phone call. With kids and both parents staying at home, covid has also given people an opportunity to connect with their families and spend quality time with each other. So sit together, teach your kids, bake together, have meaningful conversations with each other while you have the time to do so.

 

  • Change Your Mindset: It is hard to avoid not getting caught up in a spiral of negativity amidst a deadly pandemic but it is crucial to stay positive and not think of the worst-case scenarios. Don’t let your thoughts overwhelm you and avoid clinging too much to worst-case scenarios. Try practising mindfulness and yoga to stay calm and positive.  According to a study, finding something to be grateful about every day enhances mood, so practising gratitude can help boost mood and reduce anxiety.
  • Help Others:  It has become crucial in these trying times for humanity to come together and help one another. Helping others can give you a sense of satisfaction and control and make you feel a lot better about yourself. Donate some money if you can afford to, offer to deliver food to those in need if you are not in quarantine, or even a simple text message telling someone that you miss them or care for them can do wonders.

  • Seek Professional Help:  If you feel your anxiety and depression have gotten worse due to the ongoing Covid 19 pandemic it is substantial to seek professional help. More and more counsellors and therapists are giving therapy sessions online through zoom calls at affordable rates with some even giving out their services for free. So do not hesitate in seeking professional help if you’re unable to cope with your emotions.
SOCIAL ISOLATION AND MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEM IS SOMETHING THAT CAN BE TREATED JUST BY ADOPTING SOME SELF CARE TIPS OF EATING HEALTHIER, MOVING AROUND, MEDITATION, ETC.

Finally, we understand that the coronavirus pandemic has left one feeling stressed, lonely, and isolated with a fear of an unknown future looming around all our heads but we cannot compromise our mental health by constantly stressing over the future. It is important to accept things the way they are, take active steps to gain some control, be a little less harsh on yourself, love yourself a little more, and remember that this too, shall pass.
