101: Cannabidiol ‘s Ultimate, Super Informative Guide

The Effects And Impact Of Cannabidiol

Medical science has always been on a straightforward mission for centuries: to develop and provide innovative solutions for the healthcare sector and explore newer territories for future research. As newer territories and breakthroughs are being explored, newer diseases and complications are also on the rise.

The evolution of several unforeseen diseases and complications has been predicted by theorists and tacticians as a staple of the future and medical science and its research wings across the world have been trying to prevent or prepare for such precarious situations with great intent.

This has prompted them to look for suitable medications and systems that can help combat such situations in the future.

In the ensuing search, they stumbled upon several discoveries from unorthodox and unconditional sources and were able to develop inventive remedies and ingenious solutions for a lot of modern barriers.

One among these was the discovery of medical properties in the form of a chemical within the cannabis/hemp plant which would go on to be known as Cannabidiol (CBD).

~What is Cannabidiol (CBD) and its significance?

Much like the name suggests, Cannabidiol is a chemical extracted from the Cannabis sativa plant more popularly known as Hemp which is a distant cousin of the Marijuana plant or weed.

Within this plant around 80 different types of chemicals by the name of cannabinoids are said to exist out of which many are believed to be either helpful or harmful to the body.

Out of these, the Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is the most prominently witnessed component within the cannabis plant, contributing almost 40% of its constituents.

This chemical is primarily responsible for the psychoactive sensations and reactions that are most visible from the consumption and use of Marijuana.

However, Cannabidiol (CBD) on the other hand mostly consists of very small amounts of THC, making it drastically less toxic and psychoactive. In other words, its consumption does not result in anybody getting extremely “high”.

It is also enriched with several nutritional sources and helpful substances that help treat a wide range of medical ailments. A specific form of CBD has also been approved as a drug in the U.S that can combat seizure disorders aka epilepsy.

They are also found to be vital in treating muscle disorders, anxiety, Parkinson’s disease, and a plethora of physical and mental health maladies. Even still, these claims are still not properly backed by scientific evidence.

~Is Cannabidiol  legal

Before 2015 there were several regulatory specifications and procedures associated with the import and research of Cannabidiol and its parent plant, mostly as a result of its direct links with marijuana.

Except for the U.S and similar western countries, these products were strictly limited in their availability across the world. Post 2015 the FDA relaxed several of these regulations, allowing easier accessibility for research to be held on Cannabis plants and CBD products. Very recently in 2018, the U.S Farm Bill made hemp legal within the country, thereby eliminating the possibility of illegal ownerships and trades.

Even still there are several faulty claims associated with the use of Cannabis and Industrial hemp, resulting in the innate potential of the industry and further research regarding its properties remaining untapped. In a country like India, no law prohibits the import and use of Cannabidiol based products.

The NDPS Act along with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act guarantees that the licensed sale of CBD oil-based products and other subsidiaries within the country.

~Benefits of Cannabidiol

  • Effective against immunity threatening diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis

Sativex – A nasal spray containing both CBD and THC is believed to be very much effective in combating multiple sclerosis and its side effects.

This spray helps in reducing pain, urination frequency, and in relaxing muscle tissues which are common symptoms from patients suffering from MS.

Cannabidiol products are also very much beneficial in combating several other diseases such as Rheumatoid arthritis, Nerve inflammations amongst others. They are also associated with improving overall immunity and nerve health across the body.

  • Alleviating cancer-related symptoms and complications

Studies have also found that the proper administration of CBD – THC mouth sprays for cancer patients have drastically reduced their chemotherapy-related pains such as nausea, vomiting and body aches.

They also devised that CBD can alleviate the presence of breast cancer cells within organisms, however, such a claim still requires more valid proof. Proof can only be possible with further successful trials in the future.

  • Fighting against acne and protecting our skin

CBD products are enriched with the presence of anti-inflammatory properties and their ability to control the production of sebum from the sebaceous glands within the skin can greatly contribute to reducing acne along the face.

Studies have also shown them to eliminate dirt and pro–acne agents such as inflammatory cytokines, thereby ensuring that our skin is nourished and clean.

  • Neuroprotective properties

Though still in its early days, researchers have found out that CBD’s can improve our endocannabinoid system along with several other necessary brain reception units.

They can also be key players in curing several neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Epilepsy etc. Yet, requires a bit more time and research to fully develop these attributes.

  • Lowering drug addiction

CBD when used under certain conditions can be an effective remedy in lowering addictions towards heroin and tobacco-related products according to research.

This is because it is believed that CBD impacts the circuits within our brain that are directly related to drug addictions. In animal test subjects, it was found that they drastically reduced morphine dependence amongst infected animals.

~ Demerits of Cannabidiol

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women are advised to stay away from consuming CBD products as they are contaminated with several adverse ingredients that may be hazardous to the fetus or the infant.

  • Even for children, the use of CBD products must not exceed 25 mg/kg per day, as this may cause several health complications and abnormalities.

  • High doses of Cannabidiol can cause futile results from our body in the form of skin dryness, fatigue, low blood pressure and may even cause severe liver and brain damage. Therefore it is advised to always keep a check on how much we use in our day to day lives.

  • People having a history of liver diseases are strictly advised to refrain from using CBD as they may aggravate these complications once again resulting in extremely serious outcomes.

  • CBD is highly reactive with other forms of medications and substances within the body. This can prove to be extremely dangerous as they may react with these medications, thereby causing hazardous after effects. It is advised to always seek the opinion of an expert doctor or physician before use.

∆One thing to keep in mind is that the majority of the claims of CBD lack proficient scientific proof and should thereby be always used with caution and should not expect dramatic results or changes.
